The art of screen printing, or silk-screen printing, hasn't really changed much from how you remember it back in high school art class. Ink gets pushed through a screen that has a stencil image on it. How you make the screen however, has evolved quite a bit. Computer graphics programs, high resolution/high density printers, and high-intensity lighting have improved the process of making screens. Email alone has shortened the art process by at least 75%.
There are better inks, solvents, emulsions and other chemicals that help the process. But in the end, it's a lot of work. Fun work, yes but time consuming nonetheless. Between coating, exposing, wash and dry, taping, inking and then the dreaded cleanup, each screen will require about 3 hours of behind the scenes work, plus the required chemicals. That's where "screen charges" and "setup charges" come from.
